Bridging Schools and Communities
in the CABY Watersheds

syrcl and studentsThe YWI is collaborating with Downieville and Camptonville schools in the North Yuba Watershed on a two-year program funded by the CALFED Watershed Program called Bridging Schools and Communities in the CABY (Cosumnes, American, Bear and Yuba) region to be conducted over the course of the 2008-2010 academic school years.

The central goal of the project is to implement field-based watershed oriented research studies with K-12 students at selected schools in the four watersheds. In partnership with public agencies, environmental organizations and local communities, the students will focus their efforts on assessing various local watershed conditions, such as water supply, water quality, groundwater storage and climate change impacts.

The YWI has been contracted by our lead partner, the Public Education Enrichment Fund (PEEF) under the project management of Leslie Smith, to coordinate these efforts in the North Yuba. YWI, our project partners and the participating schools are in the initial stages of establishing research field study sites and identifying curriculum to develop their distinct projects.
