YWI board and cooperators:
Michele Blaz (NCRCD) and I had a successful sampling day on
Friday
Nov 13. We worked on Shady Creek's midsystem transect. It took
us over 2 hours to collect and process each sample. The conditions
were terrible and samples contained huge amounts of fine sand
and
leaves. I am also concerned that we may have less than 300 bugs
per
sample, but I won't know until we start lab work. The good news
is
that we observed (read sampled and killed) benthic
macroinvertebrates, including stoneflies and mayflies, in poor
old
Shady Creek.
Macroinvertebrate conditions were bad but we had a great time
and
I look forward to next week.
Thanks for all your support and patience with the rescheduling.
I
will be sampling again (weather permitting) on Nov. 16, 18, 20
and
23-25. If you are not already scheduled with me, please let me
know
which days you want to join me.
Warm regards,
Eric
