YWI Board and Cooperators:
Next week I am packaging up and sending off to the National
Aquatic Monitoring Center almost all the benthic macroinvertebrate
samples we have gathered to date. I will keep only as many samples
as I have committed volunteers to process! It takes about 4 hours
per sample for two people to pull out the minimum necessary 100
bugs, and about four hours more to key the little guys to Order
(as in Phylum, Genus).
Sig Ostrum has offered laboratory facilities at Nevada Union
High
School. We would be working evenings only. Please get back to
me
soon if you are interested and willing to join me in the lab.
Please note how many evenings you would like to contribute.
Personally, I would like to put in 2-4 evenings, but would do
more
if there is overwhelming interest. (For those of you who have
never
seen aquatic insects under a dissecting scope, I heartily recommend
several evenings. The morphology of these creatures is really
interesting.)
Please write soon.
Warm regards,
Eric
